I first spoke to Hire Pals at the beginning of September and within 10 weeks, I had secured 5 interviews and a new job offer!! Even though many of the job adverts were receiving hundreds of applications.
I had seen a Hire Pals post on LinkedIn offering to help people looking for work, helping them to write their CVs and improve their LinkedIn profiles. I visited their website and signed up for a free 20 minute consultation. I also emailed over my CV so that it could be reviewed.
My coach put me at ease from the very start; he was professional and interested in my situation. I explained that I was currently on furlough and that my role as a Marketing Executive was at risk of redundancy. I therefore needed to find a new job, the reason for making contact with Hire Pals.
We chatted for some time and my coach provided some helpful information with regard to setting goals around my job search, which job boards to look at and how many applications to make each week. He also advised me to reach to existing contacts, people that I currently worked with or had worked with in the past, asking if they would add a recommendation to my LinkedIn profile.
We also talked about how to improve my LinkedIn profile by adding key words to describe what I do and making the headline more detailed. My coach had also reviewed my CV, condensing it and making it much more succinct.
On my second call with Hire Pals, my coach asked me about my role and about my strengths so that these could be included on my CV; he talked to me about adapting my CV for every application that I made, ensuring that I was including key words that had been used in the advertisement.
The conversations that I had with my coach made me focus on my abilities, strengths and work experiences which enabled me to have confidence to apply for a wide range of marketing roles which were being advertised. I was able to break down the job requirements and match them to my abilities.
I was spending all of my spare time job searching and applying, ensuring that each CV and cover letter was specific to the job being applied for.
I applied for my first job in the middle of September and secured my first interview a few weeks later. My coach was on hand to offer me guidance and support in preparation for the interview. The interview was conducted remotely via video conference which was a first for me. I was able to feedback the interview to my coach who provided constructive criticism of where I could make improvements to my answers and conduct through the interview.
I had three more interviews after this (two via video conference and one face to face) and again my coach was there to support me for each and every one, asking me interview questions and helping me research the company I was interviewing with, providing tips on what sorts of questions they might ask and how best to answer them. We also worked on my elevator pitch to ensure that I gave a comprehensive overview of my work history and successes.
Then my fifth interview came, I had a call with my coach the day before to help me prepare and focus on what was important for this role. The interview was via video conference, and it felt like it had gone really well; I struck a good rapport with the interviewers and answered their questions fully. I was offered the job and I couldn’t believe it.
I had secured 5 interviews within the space of 10 weeks. I feel like I am one of the lucky ones, to have secured a new role in a relatively short period of time and I couldn’t have done it without the support of Hire Pals. It’s been a rollercoaster of a ride with ups and downs along the way. I built a good rapport with my coach through our conversations; he was extremely supportive and wanted me to succeed in my quest, he was always there to provide guidance. Without Hire Pals I don’t think I would have had the confidence or resilience to deliver in the way that I did, all the preparation and assistance that was provided had led me to this point where all that I had learnt came together and provided the result that I wanted.
I would recommend anyone looking for work to contact Hire Pals and benefit from their experience and guidance – the job market is very difficult now especially given the pandemic that we are experiencing and so many people being out of work. I know that there were over 100 applications for some of the roles I applied to, so competition is tough. It’s so important to ensure that you stand out from the crowd to give yourself the best possible chance of securing an interview. Hire Pals can help you with this by guiding you on how to adapt your CV to each and every application, using key words that resonate with the employer to ensure that they read your application fully.
Once you get that interview, Hire Pals can help you prepare and offer sound advice on how to answer questions, they have a depth of knowledge about the recruitment market and can guide you through it.
Hire Pals can help you in your job search no matter what field of work you are in – they can guide you and be there to support you in the same way as they have supported me. I would thoroughly recommend them to anyone.
